A Letter to Myself: Becoming Your Own Teacher

It’s surprising that many of us were never taught to nurture our own voices. We often grow up believing our voice should conform to someone else’s expectations. Yet, we have the agency to disagree with any teacher or authority figure who tries to alter our authentic sound.

Musicians spend countless hours in practice rooms striving for consistency. It has been taught to be non-negotiable. A huge part of the craft is perfecting technique, building muscle memory, and ensuring reliable performances. However, that repetition becomes draining if the focus shifts entirely to being flawless rather than expressive.
