As the New Year settles in, I’ve finally set some goals to keep my mind and vocal journey feeling fresh and inspired. This year, I’m diving into new techniques to stay musically motivated and, hopefully, maintain excellent vocal health.
Here are a few of my small professional and vocal goals:
1. Prioritize caring for my instrument and body: Staying active! I know it’s a bit cliché since everyone seems to focus on the gym, but this time I truly mean it. After my injury, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for my body and all it’s done for me over the years. Now, I want to honor and reward it by staying strong and fit.
2. Embrace the silence: Every second of vocal rest matters. Who knew I’d find so much joy in quiet car rides?
3. Invest in prevention: To avoid over-straining, I’m making blue light glasses and regularly nebulizing a part of my routine.
4. Put myself first: While I adore my clients, I need to remember that it’s okay to say no when necessary. Prioritizing my own well-being is essential.
5. Fully disconnect on my days off: With only two days off, it’s vital to resist the urge to work during my downtime. So here’s to reconnecting with old friends, planning numerous parties, and binge watching Gossip Girl! Here’s to truly resting, recharging, and preventing burnout.
6. Celebrate my clients’ successes as my own: Even though I’m not currently auditioning or competing, my clients’ achievements are a reflection of my dedication and impact—a success in itself.
While these goals are small, they are meaningful goals that remind me to care for myself while staying passionate and inspired in my work.
Cheers to a New Year,
T
